Hello again.
I know we get a little long winded about safety but so many people get injuries for the holidays by not safely putting up their Christmas lights.
Now that the holiday season is upon us again, we just want to give you a few easy steps to take to keep you safe when adding lights to your home's roof.
WORK IN THE DAYLIGHT
It gets dark so early here in PA that some people find it difficult to find time during daylight hours to decorate their roof.
CHECK THE WEATHER
This is an easy one. If you choose to decorate your roof, be sure not to attempt that during a wind, rain or snow storm. This is pretty obvious. You won't want to be on a slippery ladder or struggle with strands of lights in a wind or rain storm.
PREPARE YOUR MATERIALS
What is worse than getting all the way up on your roof only to find that your beautiful strand of light's are not working or they are so tangled that you can't straighten them out when you are on the ladder or roof. Untangle and plug in your lights to be sure you can hang them easily.
CLEAR YOUR ROOF
You should make sure that your roof and gutter have no leaves, dirt or debris that could cause slipping or tripping. Not only will it be easier to put up your lights but a whole lot safer for you.
YOUR LADDER
Make sure you have a sturdy ladder before you even think about decorating your roof. Your ladder should be on a 75-degree angle and set on a flat level surface, away from power lines or doors that someone may want to walk thru.
HAVE A SPOTTER
Not only is it more fun to put up Christmas lights with a friend or family member, it is a good idea to have someone spotting your on your ladder.
